Polish experimental filmmaker and media artist Zbigniew Rybczyński's 1988 film The Fourth Dimension. Part of a series of films utilising then-cutting edge video technology and inventive camera trickery, Rybczyński explores human form as distorted, spiralling ribbons. Largely created by separating frames into strips and staggering them vertically, Rybczyński creates the illusion of time pouring on the figures as they glide through a dreamlike domestic setting.
Beautifully dated and peculiar, The Fourth Dimension is a woozy mix of biblical reference, René Magritte style set design and the detached eroticism of an 80s fragrance commercial.
